Congratulations – Sir Tim!
p2pnet.net News:- It’s official. Tim Berners-Lee is now Sir Tim.
In mid-April Berners-Lee, the man who invented the World Wide Web, was told he’d won the Finnish Technology Award Foundation’s first Millennium Technology Prize worth $1.2 million. And it was today presented to him by the president of Finland, Tarja Halonen last month.
Although he opened the Web to the world, he wasn’t wealthy and the recent Finnish award was the most he’d received for his invention.
Sir Tim has been known as, well, Sir Tim for quite a while. But it wasn’t until today that he was ‘properly’ dubbed by Britain’s Queen Elizabeth to became a knight commander, the second-highest rank in the Order of the British Empire.
He currently heads the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) at MIOTÂ (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) in Boston and, “is now working on an idea called the ’semantic web’, which is about giving more meaning to what is on the web so that search results become more ‘intelligent’,” says a BBC story here. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/3899723.stm
