EMI president Doug Merrill ’steps down’
p2pnet news view Music:- Big 4 Corporate music member EMI has clearly begun a major shakeup, working from the top down.
Almost exactly a year ago, Google guy jumps ship to run EMI, said a p2pnet headline.
The Google guy was Doug Merrill (right), the company’s CIO until he left to become the president of EMI.
Did his appointment herald a sea change in EMI?
The day after his new job was announced, he was quoted as saying it’s a, “poor business model to sue your customers. I don’t think that’s a sustainable strategy.”
Now, however, Merrill is apparently seeking new employment having been given the Order of the Boot.
“Douglas Merrill, the Google vet tapped by struggling record label EMI to run its digital operations a year ago, is out,” says All Things Digital.
“He doesn’t have a formal replacement, but the company’s top digital exec will now be Cory Ondrejka, whom Merrill brought in as his number two.”
EMI boss Guy Hands quits CEO job, said another recent p2pnet headline.
“EMI declined to comment on the reasons for the departure, while Mr Merrill was unavailable for comment,” says the Financial Times.
Says the EMI CEO Elio Leoni-Sceti, quoted by All Things Digital,
“Douglas Merrill has today stepped down from his roles as President of Digital and COO of EMI New Music and will be leaving the company.
“I would like to thank Douglas for his contribution and to wish him well for the future.”
