Microsoft, Lindows settle
p2pnet.net News:- Lindows will stop using Lindows.
That’s the bottom line in an agreement between Microsoft and Lindows (oops, Linspire) who say they’ve reached a worldwide settlement in the trademark infringement cases involving David and Goliath.
“We are pleased to resolve this litigation on terms that make business sense for all parties,” says Lindows (oops, Linspire) ceo Michael Robertson.
“Over the next few months Lindows will cease using the term Lindows and transition to Linspire globally as our company name and primary identifier for our operating system product.”
The settlement agreement resolves all claims in this litigation, both in the United States and internationally, say the two in a joint press release.
Lindows (oops Linspire) has gained priceless international exposure during the course of its battle with with Microsoft over whether or not Lindows is/was too close to Windows.

I can’t believe the idiot Caved.
He must have got a LOT of $$$ from them to give it up, cuz it was ONLY in the US where he COULD use the name Lindows without problems. M$ had lost the battle there. It was in idiotic Euro-courts that failed to realize the prior art and other similar Trade name usage history and blanket stop him from the efforts.
I’ve used Lindows, it’s not so great. Now he really doesn’t have much to rave about or garner free publicity. Lindows (linspire) is not inspiring. The built in Wine didn’t work, didn’t config using the tools, etc.
There are better live CD options than this distro. Sorry to say dude, but you should get Slax, or Knoppix, or Mandrake Move, or Suse Eval, etc, etc, etc. Linspire just, well… doesn’t.
