Napster goes to Cornell
p2pnet.net News:- Here’s an interesting footnote to yesterday’s Napster II story.
Napster has been disinterred several times, its body parts have been stitched together again and it now walks the earth mindlessly as Napster II. [Maybe it should be re-named Zopster: Zombie + Napster - Ed]
With Big Music’s (Recording Industry Association of America) holding it upright, it’s trying to become a significant presence in the corporate download market with launches here, there and everywhere, all to little avail.
Then yesterday came the news that it’s in six more US universities as part of the music industry’s Buy From Us Or We’ll Sue Your Gluteus Maximus school sales program.
Among the new RIAA University Product Sales units is Cornell.
“In our role representing the student body, we needed to find a university-wide solution to online piracy and dispel the common fear of looming lawsuits,” The Register’s Ashlee Vance has ex-student assembly president Nicholas John Linder saying here.
“Napster offers a unique blend of a name students recognize, a broad music library that appeals to every taste and community features that let you discover new music and share your favorites with friends.”
Wonder who briefed him?
Anyway, Linder forgot to mention that Cary Sherman went to Cornell for his undergraduate degree, adds Vance.
Sherman is, of course, a top reality adjustment specialist at the RIAA.
