It, “furthers Hatch’s exploitation of children-centered concerns in his quest to appease deep-pocketed entertainment companies,” ARS Technica’s Ken Fisher said recently. “In short, the act seeks to hold liable anything and everything that could be used to infringe copyrights. Burn the VCR, burn the photocopiers, folks.”
The Senate Committee on the Judiciary will hold a hearing into INDUCE next Thursday (July 22) at 2:00 pm in Room 226 of the Senate Dirksen Office Building.

But not to worry. Given that INDUCE is one of the most preposterous pieces of legislation ever mooted, even taking Hatch’s involvement into account, the Judiciary Committee is the correct place for it, ne ce’est pas?
Hatch is the chairman and alongside him will be equally ardent Hollywood supporters John Cornyn, Patrick Leahy, Lindsey Graham and Dianne Feinstein.
The H, C, L, L&F combo receives very generous financial support from the entertainment industry. But that’s a coincidence, of course. And since no one in the US administration seems to find it strange or worth further investigation, it must be OK.
Be that as it may, INDUCE has been mis-characterized as being a dire threat to Apple’s iPod. But given that iPod and iTunes are major components in the entertainment industry campaign to give the false impression that corporate music’s download sites are factors in the online music world, it’s in absolutely no danger.
The impression comes from the brilliant EFFÂ mock INDUCE trial with MAJOR RECORD LABELS as Plaintiffs and APPLE COMPUTER, INC, TOSHIBA CORP, and CNET NETWORKS as Defendants.
