Florida man hacked dbase
p2pnet.net News:- Forty-five-year-old Scott Levine has been indicted for hacking into a marketing company in Little Rock, Arkansas, and accessing personal, financial and company dbase data.
Levine effectively controlled Snipermail.com, a Florida corporation in the Boca Raton area which distributed advertisements (spammed) to e-mail addresses on behalf of advertisers or their brokers, says the Department of Justice here, going on:
“The charges stem from alleged illegal intrusions by Levine and other Snipermail employees into a computer database owned and operated by Acxiom Corporation, one of the world’s largest companies that manages personal, financial, and corporate data. Acxiom, which is headquartered in Little Rock and Conway, Arkansas, stores and processes large amounts of customer-provided data on behalf of its clients. The indictment charges 139 counts of illegal access, representing approximately which were downloaded from the Acxiom server from approximately April 2002 to August 2003.
Levine and other Snipermail employees are accused of downloading 8.2G bytes of data from the Acxiom company server from April 2002 to August 2003.
The indictment followed investigations last year into an unrelated case which led to the arrest and indictment of Daniel Baas, of Milford, Ohio, also accused of downloading sensitive information from Acxiom.
The information doesn’t appear to have been subsequently used in any fraudulent schemes, says NetworkWorldFusion here.
The indictment also alleges Levine “and others” actively concealed computers from investigators during the investigation to “hide their illicit activity and avoid prosecution”.

This might be a little off the main thrust of your story, but… It might not be entirely accurate to use term ‘dbase’ in place of ‘database’. dBase is a brand of software for general and database programming, and also a type of database table disk file.
Roughly speaking, a database is a repository of data stored, generally, in tables. Other elements of a database management system (DBMS) such as queries, user security systems, or data entry forms, may also be considered part of a database. There are many computer formats in which databases are stored, and many types of DBMS software. Just to get a little picky about details.
