China online porn war
p2pnet.net News:- China’s president Hu Jintao’s has issued instructions "to wage a people’s war against pornography on the Internet," says the state news agency Xinhua.
"Zhou Yongkang, member of the Political Bureau and Secretariat of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee spoke at a national teleconference on the crackdown," it says here, going on:
"Zhou pledged to firmly crack down on a number of major criminal cases, severely punish operators and individuals that have violated the law, destroy porn sites, and to crack down on a number of online criminal activities that commit fraud and promote gambling."
Beijing has blocked 988 overseas websites and shut down 67 local ones as part of the war, says an Agence France-Presse story here.
China’s attempts to control what happens online are continuous and include clamp-downs on digital videos, mobile text censorship schemes, Do-It-Yourself parental censorship, Net cafe bans, and more.
"The popular search tool Google was also inaccessible this week," says AFP, going on:
"So far, the Chinese capital has arrested 13 people suspected of operating the websites, the Beijing Youth Daily said.
"Police received 10,660 tips from the public, a majority of which were complaints about inappropriate sexual content on the Internet. Other complaints involved pornographic mobile phone short messages, the report said."

Maybe they should add scam sites like Kazaa Gold to their ban list.

My cousin lives down in China, works there as a teacher. I let him have access to my local Proxy so he can avoid the communism just like when hes home in Canada.
