Phil Spector faces 18 years for murder

p2pnet news view Crime | Music:- Legendary corporate music industry producer Phil Spector (right) once forced Dee Dee Ramone to play bass at gunpoint, said Times Online.

He fired a gun in the studio while he was recording John Lennon’s album Rock ‘n’ Roll,

And he once showed his wife a gold, glass-topped coffin and, “told her that she’d die there if she ever left him for a member of the Rolling Stones,” said the story.

Now Spector, 68, found guilty of second-degree murder of B movie actress Lana Clarkson, faces at least 18 years in jail, says the New York Times:

“The jury, ending a five-month trial, reached its decision after 27 hours of deliberating whether he shot the woman in a fit of anger or, as his lawyers argued, merely witnessed her suicide.”

Spector already been tried once, the first ending in a hung jury in 2007 with 10 out of 12 calling for a conviction.

He’s been on bail for most of the last six years, but was immediately taken into custody after the verdict, says the story

“The teenage genius who rose to become, for a short and incandescent moment, the most successful producer in rock and roll, but who was overtaken by hubris and his own demons, and whose recklessness and increasing detachment from reality would lead him eventually to a Los Angeles courtroom and a conviction for murder,” says The Telegraph, going on:

“It has taken six years finally to bring to a conclusion the saga that began on the night of Feb 2, 2003, when Spector walked into a Hollywood night club, the House of Blues, and invited the VIP hostess, 40-year-old Lana Clarkson back to his mansion in the nondescript Los Angeles suburb of Alhambra for a drink.”

Less than three hours later, “Clarkson died from a single gunshot to the mouth,” it adds.

The Los Angeles Times has district attorney’s office spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons  saying as far as she knows, this is the first time a celebrity has been convicted of murder in the last 40 years .

“Spector’s attorney immediately said he would appeal,” says the story, adding:

“The lawyer asked that Spector remain free on $1-million bail until the sentence was imposed, but a prosecutor protested, citing Spector’s history of menacing people with guns and his incentive to flee the jurisdiction.

“During the trial and a 2007 proceeding that ended in a hung jury, Judge Larry Paul Fidler heard extensive testimony from women who said Spector terrorized them at gunpoint, and he ordered that Spector be taken into custody immediately. ”

Spector was also found guilty of illegally discharging a firearm.

  2. Reader's Write Says:

It would be funny if he ends up in the same prison as Lou Pearlman.

With the music industry ranks overflowing with criminals of all kinds, it’s amazing that they have the gall to try to preach morality to the public.

  3. Rafael Venegas Says:

THE TIME BOMBS IN A SICK SOCIETY

The man was simply a sick (schizophrenia or bipolar) victim of a sick society that wants to solve mental health problems by throwing the sick into jails as criminals.

Mental health is a serious problem in America and the country should be ashamed that it (claims) has no money for adequate mental health treatment for all, while it throws money away in so called defense (or is it offense?), intelligence (or is it stupidity), gambling, electoral activity, booze/drugs, and huge bonuses for stupid executives their work in bankrupting the economy?

Clearly there is no system in place to have mental health victims stopped before they become criminals because government is too busy attending the interests of the political investors as promoted by lobbyists.

Mental patients, most of which are time bombs, have no lobbyists.
