Obama DoJ hires another RIAA lawyer

p2pnet news view | RIAA News:- It’s time for an official government inquiry into the RIAA, says a recent p2pnet post, continuing:

“A Chicago student said she was planning on killing herself because the RIAA promised her she’d land in court unless she paid almost $10,000 to ’settle’. She, ‘couldn’t sleep, couldn’t study, couldn’t live a normal life because of the worry’. ”

Now, in a scarcely believable outrage, the Obama administration, with RIAA enthusiast Joe Biden as vice president, has appointed another RIAA lawyer to the Department of Justice.

Says the Legal Times blog:

“Jenner & Block partner Ian Gershengorn is leaving the firm later this month to become deputy assistant attorney general in the Justice Department’s Civil Division with oversight of the Federal Programs Branch.”

“I’ve had a terrific run at Jenner,” Gershengorn says. “But there’s no thrill quite like representing the United States.”

And the RIAA, of course.

At Jenner, Gershengorn worked with Donald Verrilli Jr and Thomas Perrelli, both now at the US Department of InJustice.

Verrilli associate deputy attorney general and Perrelli is the associate attorney general.

Jenner & Block is a long-time RIAA favourite.

A very senior copyright lawyer told p2pnet in February »»»

As far as I know, Perrelli did not invent the RIAA’s painfully wrongheaded approach of suing its own customers because it was conceived before he assumed his representation of the member companies in these cases.

Instead, he stood forward as willing to commit the full resources of his law firm to implement that tactic – one that failed miserably in achieving its stated goals and that caused serious harm to many regular folks.  The personal impact on the defendants of those attacks were predictable and intentional.

It was an ugly business. Lawyers of his stature and skill know exactly what they are doing.  These were not unintended consequences.

Verrelli seriously mis-stated the RIAA and member company positions with respect to the duplication of masters for use on an iPOD in the Grokster argument and the court ultimately rejected his attempt to reshape and overturn the Sony decision.  Maybe not his fault but hardly a “victory” or an example of a great result.

It is an ugly business.

Hey, this is good news. As more and more RIAA lawyers work for the Justice Department, the more the Justice Department an learns, in due tiem, of the RIAA operation.
I don’t think, RIAA is gaining anything but is entering the shark infested waters of the Justice Department. A huge risk if Justice decides to investigate RIAA, and they will eventually, if not right away. After all, pressure is building up.

    “Hey, this is good news.”
Agree. Just as if the mafia lawyers were recruited by the Justice Department. The mafia should worry.
    RIAA should worry too.

On above post, the question is who is infiltrating who?
Generally Lawyers – like financiers and wall street executives, political leaders – just follow the money.
Lawyers have no loyalty to clients, country, family, friends, no one, not even God.
Did you hear the one about the preacher, who asked a lawyer at the Sunday sermon if he could ask one legal question.
The lawyer said. Sure, you just have. I will send you the bill tomorrow.
