Microsoft ends XP ‘mainstream support’
p2pnet news view | Products:- Today is X-Day for Microsoft XP.
The company has deleted it from its “mainstream support”.
But no worries, says Ars Technica.
At least, not for a while.
Because Steve and the Boyz aren’t planning on retiring Extended Support until April 8, 2014.
“If Redmond ends up releasing a fourth service pack for XP, it will retire support for SP3 (released April 2008) two years after SP4 is released, or in April 2014, whichever comes first, “says the story, adding:
“And the same applies for Office 2003, which is also at SP3 (released in September 2007).”

Ars Technica – Windows XP Mainstream Support retired, but no need to worry, April 14, 2009

Microsoft is really trying to pull this off, eh?
How long until the cracks that allow non-activated windows to work get distributed as much as DeCSS?

Some, if they are big enough will just negotiate extended support for themselves. I.e Goverments.
