Tobacco + pot = health hazards

p2pnet news view | Off Topic:- “People who smoke both tobacco and marijuana increase their risk of respiratory symptoms and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD),” say University of British Columbia researchers, according to the CBC.

American comedian Bob Newhart talks to Sir Walter Raleigh, the man who created Big Tobacco »»»

Let me get this straight, Walt, you’ve bought eighty tonnes of leaves? This may come as a kind of a surprise to you Walt but come fall in England, we’re kinda upto our…
It isn’t that kind of leaf, huh?…
Oh!, what kind is it then… some special kind of food?…
Not exactly?…
Oh, it has a lot of different uses, like, what are some of the uses, Walt?…
Are you saying ’snuff’, Walt?…
What’s snuff?…
You take a pinch of tobacco, ha! ha! ha!…
And you shove it up your nose. ha! ha! ha!…
and it makes you sneeze? ha! ha! ha!…
Yeh, I imagine it would, Walt! Hey, Goldenrod seems to do it pretty well over here!
It has other uses though, huh?…
You can chew it!…
Or put it in a pipe!…
Or you can shred it up…
And put it in a piece of paper. ha! ha! ha!…
And roll it up. ha ha ha…
Don’t tell me, Walt, don’t tell me. ha! ha! ha! you stick it in your ear, right? ha! ha! ha!…
Oh! between your lips!…
Then what do you do, Walt? ha! ha! ha!…
You set fire to it! ha! ha! ha!…
Then what do you do, Walt?…
Ha! ha! ha! You inhale the smoke, huh! ha! ha! ha!…

COPD is the medical term used to describe diseased lungs and narrowed airways, a condition that can be fatal, says the CBC, quoting Dr Wan Tan from a report published yesterday in the Canadian Medical Association Journal.

“This effect suggests smoking marijuana (at least in relatively low doses) may act as a primer, or sensitizer, in the airways to amplify the adverse effects of tobacco on respiratory health,” he says.

Some 878 people who were at least 40 years old were surveyed in Vancouver, says the story, adding:

“The researchers defined smokers as people who reported smoking at least 365 cigarettes in their lifetime. Participants were considered to be marijuana smokers if they smoked more than 50 marijuana cigarettes in their lifetime.

“The researchers cautioned their study was limited by lack of data on potential variations in marijuana potency, on differences in inhalation and the number of smokers who combine both substances in the same cigarette.”

Funnily enough… My Peerguardian blocks the cbc.ca site. Both are not worthy on my Internet.

FOAD, or do some proper research on Cannabis & COPD.

  2. EPiPH0N3 Says:

    It’s called a Vapor Genie….GET INTO IT!!

Possibly but one thing is sure. If smoking pot is not as toxic as tobaco it is still toxic.
Without even considering the neurological effect of pot (which is not very clear but does not look good) smoking anything is not good.

Why? because smoking burning stuff make you inhale a lot of irritating combustion byproducts some of them potentially carcinogenic. But the worst when smoking pott is CO. These induces most of the respiratory and cardivascular problems plaging tobaco smokers. Do you know how painful it is to die slowly of emphysema or of congestive heart failure? Not fun!

Granted marijuana is not as toxic as tobacco because:

    1) Marijuana does not contain nitrosamine a very powerful carcinogen responsible for 95% of the carconogenic effect of tobacco. As far as we know marijuana unlike tobacco is not carcinogenic. Only smoking it might have some of these effects.
    2) It is certainly not as addictive as tobacco. (If it is addictive Data are not clear.)
    3) it does not induce the Burger disease an tobacco induced affection that make the victim slowly loses their limbs.

These being said stay away from smoking anything! And beward parkinson disease and Alzeimer as there is some suspicion these might be promoted by pot.

By the way these tobacco executives are worst parasites that the recording industry one and we should have exterminated these dangerous criminals long time ago.

  4. Monkey D. Luffy Says:

It never made sense to have an army of cops running around busting people for weed because it’s “bad for your health”, while tobacco is legal. Try eating a tobacco brownie some time.

  5. Jon Says:

    @ Monkey D. Luffy

“Try eating a tobacco brownie some time.”

    Why? Are they good? heh

    Cheers!

Once a “research” came out, claiming that food -when baked- also is hazardous for your health, and ‘would’ cause cancer. Stop eating also? Veggy juices?

As said above: It’s called vaporizer… en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporizer (Yes, a Wikilink *duh*)

“Several scientific studies have been done showing that vaporization is a means of cannabis delivery less injurious to health than smoking. When using high-end vaporizers along with high grade cannabis (containing elevated levels of THC), almost all undesired compounds are found to be eliminated (depending on the precise heat of the mechanism along with the method of inhalation), in a manner consistent enough for clinical trials.”

For me, personally, Cannabis has proven it’s worth. And for many others also. In short, it widens my Bronchi. Thus positively beneficial for my breathing. For your information, eating an apple also ‘can cause’ cancer. As you can get cancer by ‘just breathing’. Still remains one of the most scary diseases.

“And beward parkinson disease and Alzeimer as there is some suspicion”

Suspicion is not scientific proof. Neither is the research which is given in this article. As for Alzheimer. A recent study was done, where they found ‘trigger’ genes. (lacking proper words). Hopefully that horrible disease will be “gone” in a few years.

Sure, there are many negative things too be said regarding Cannabis. But for the most information, it can be countered with proper scientific research. Ofcourse not done by those who still feed the silly ‘war on drugs’. Which made sure that (potential) users are left in the dark. And many of them do experiment, as a (direct) result of not having _solid_ information…

“By the way these tobacco executives are worst parasites that the recording industry one and we should have exterminated these dangerous criminals long time ago.”

I absolutly agree! Let’s lobby together. You may use my Vappy while we do so. ;-]

    P.s.

“My Peerguardian blocks the cbc.ca site. Both are not worthy on my Internet.”

My Peerguardian IS welcome, although I strictly see it as an necessary evil. I was referring to both the site, and the mentioned silly research. Sue me, I’m not English/ American. P2Pnet has global readers, which is a good thing. *lol*
