Ellie May Challis bouncing along –
p2pnet news view | Cool:- There’s no such thing as ‘disabled’.
People do, though, have differences and at the beginning of March we ran a post about Aimee Mullins, a woman who became a top model and athlete despite the fact her legs were amputated when she was only a year old.
We did a follow-up which included mention of Cerrie Burnell, a BBC presenter with one arm, and now we’ll make you a bet:
It won’t be long before both women connect with five-year-old Ellie May Challis, if they haven’t already.
Because Ellie May is the, “youngest person in the world to be fitted with special carbon framed limbs,” says the Clacton Gazette.
They’re the same one of the sets used by Aimee.
Ellie May lost her limbs after she nearly died from meningitis, says the story, going on she originally had National Health Service prosthetic limbs, but couldn’t wear them because they were too painful.
“People from across Essex rallied to support her parents Lisa and Paul Challis by holding fundraisers to pay for prosthetic limbs, but those have left her struggling to keep up with her classmates at Engaines Primary School, in Little Clacton and her twin sister Sophie,” says the Gazette, adding:
“She was fitted with them three weeks ago making her the youngest person in the world to have the £10,000 a pair special limbs.”
But the stuggle for her parents isn’t over yet.
Her new limbs will need to be replaced every two years, says the story.
