But it’s starting to look like a numbers contest – the $$$ kind.

With Ashton Kutcher bragging he has more than a million followers, Oprah has joined the flock.

Right now, she’s following nine people: Jimmy Fallon; Sheri Salata; THE_REAL_SHAQ; Evan Williams; Ellen DeGeneres; Gayle King; GeorgeStephanopoulos; Demi Moore and [you guessed it] Ashton Kutcher.

She, in turn, has 90,460 followers (8:14 am Pacific).

Twitter, the “30-person company” still doesn’t have a business model, says Stephen Shankland on CNet News, going on:

“A Google advertising partnership or an acquisition would have been more exciting news for the tech crowd.”

For the tech crowd? Hardly. For the ad crowd? Absolutely.

With that in mind, “here’s why the Oprah moment shouldn’t be dismissed lightly,” says CNet, adding:

“Oprah Winfrey already has more than 76,000 followers, with a hundred more arriving by the minute on Friday morning.

“She embodies an element of mainstream America and has sway over a vast audience. An Oprah endorsement makes it a lot easier for a start-up to legitimately argue it’s broken out of its tech niche, or at least is breaking out of it.”

So, guys, you were a niche.

Now you’re a knot.

And at 8:22 am Pacific, Oprah’s score has rocketed to 93,231.
