Mozilla ‘kill e-bugs’ plan
p2pnet.net News:- Virus writers now have a permanent bounty on their heads, thanks to a security bug eradication program just launched by the Mozilla Foundation, Net entrepreneur Mark Shuttleworth and Linspire.
They’re promising a $500 reward to users who identify and report security vulnerabilities in the open source project’s software.
Called the Security Bug Bounty Program it, “reflects our commitment to protecting consumers from malicious actors,” says Mozilla Foundation president Mitchell Baker.
“Recent events illustrate the need for this type of commitment. While no software is immune from security vulnerabilities, bugs in open source projects are often identified and fixed more quickly. The Security Bug Bounty Program will help us unearth security issues earlier, allowing our supporters to provide us with a head start on correcting vulnerabilities before they are exploited by malicious hackers.”
Seed funding provided by Linspire and Shuttleworth will be supplemented by tax-deductible contributions and Shuttleworth says he’ll match the first $5,000.
