IBM won’t attack Linux
p2pnet.net News:- IBM won’t do a SCO with its Linux patents.
That’s the promise of senior vp Nick Donofrio, quoted in a TechWeb story here which says Donofrio asserted that he wouldn’t, "use his company’s extensive patent portfolio against Linux".
TechWeb goes on that almost lost in the applause was Donofrio’s qualifier, "unless forced to do so" in "an apparent reference to the fact that IBM is being sued by SCO Group Inc. for having allegedly donated code to Linux that was SCO intellectual property. Donofrio didn’t describe any circumstances in which IBM might assert its own patent rights."
IBM recently gave its Cloudscape Java database to Apache as part of an open source project.
