Beatles songs on ‘feminine hygiene’ ads
p2pnet news view Advertising | Music:- “Do we live in totally different universes â Us and Them?” – wondered p2pnet when Reuters revealed albums from Paul McCartney and Guns N’ Roses were to “debut online on MySpace”.
McCartney hasn’t done anything worth listening to since the Beatles disbanded, and Chinese Democracy from the digusting Guns N’ Roses is already online, said the story.
That was because of search sites such as isoHunt and MiniNova —-
—- and The Pirate Bay, whose owners are currently wondering when the copyright lawsuit brought against them by the entertainment industry will be declared null and void because of what Rick Falkvinge of Sweden’s Pirate Party called “corruption on a completely unforgivable level”.
The verdict, jail time for Peter Sunde Kolmisoppi, Frederik Neij, Gottfrid Svartholm Warg and Carl Lundström, together with a $3.59 million financial hit for alleged copyright infringements, was fair, opined Paul McCartney.
But it’s likely to be ruled a mistrial because because of the presiding judge’s alleged extracurricular activities.
Meanwhile, “Ok,” says Real World person in a Reader’s Write, going on »»»
For those who even care to know. The Beatles lost $100 million for the rights to market t-shirts, lunch boxes, etc. Paul McCartney has lost more money for his WORK than any of you will ever earn.
He made a statement about new artists and new bands. He feels that it would be nice for them to earn a living from the works that they create. If they can`t, then they will not enjoy the luxury of creating more music.
He didn`t whine about losing a bazillion dollars in his lifetime. I would rather have him control the use of his OWN songs in the future. The day that his copyrights expire, you will see how cheap and abused the music will be. You will be sickened by the grotesque commercialism exercised into your home 24/7. I can live with a Nike Revolution shoe commercial.
Just wait until they are playing Beatles songs on feminine hygiene commercials. Or a trojan ad with Happiness is a warm gun or come together. We can work it out on a therapists ad . Followed by.. Hello/Goodbye on a divorce lawyer`s ad. Your mother should know .on a Pro-Life proposition. Get Back on an anti-immigration proposition. Carry that Weight on a Jenny Craig ad.
“Hmm,” adds the commment post, “maybe some won`t be so bad ”

“Paul McCartney has lost more money for his WORK than any of you will ever earn.”
Yes, he was, for a while, one of the richest musicians in history.
That’s also the point of contention.
How rich does someone have to be before he fully appreciates the wealth acquired from his fans?!
You need to ask yourself, “Why did he lose so much?”, if he was such a “legend”.
Gee, d’ya think it had something to do with not offering anything worthy?!
Certainly, P2P wasn’t even in the picture during his greatest loss period.
(Not counting the time of his divorce.)

It may surprise some that copyright hasn’t really been much of a factor in this regard.
Many copyrighted songs have been “commercially exploited” over the years.
It’s the power of the Almighty Buck at work. When Big Business wants to do it, they just pay for it.
Some artists that have actually held the copyright to their own work have “cashed in” on this at times as well, as they may not have been as flush with money as Sir Paul. Naturally, when you’re much more successful, there isn’t much incentive to sell your soul to a commercial. (eg. How long was Led Zeppelin out of the picture before you heard their music on GM commercials?)

âThe day that his copyrights expire, you will see how cheap and abused the music will be.â
Yeah, like all of those classic music that is being exploited right now (like being used in Bugs Bunny cartoons, etc…).
As for
“He made a statement about new artists and new bands. He feels that it would be nice for them to earn a living from the works that they create. If they canât, then they will not enjoy the luxury of creating more music.”
I though “good” music was from the creativity of the musician, not the financial backing… but then again, I might be a bit naive.
When you think what the barrels of cash has brought musicians in the past, a large number of the musicians have stopping “making” music, and have gone off in a tangent, away from music (I can mention a whole load of musicians that have stopped making music after making barrels of cash).
Just my two cents

Wow, you must really be a McCartney hater. Your article is full of inconsistencies about McCartney. Sounds like someone may be just a little jealous. You also picked a real flattering photo oh Sir Paul to post with this amaturish attempt at a contraversial article.
Paul McCartney has had MANY hits since The Beatles disbanded. I admit that during the 1980′s, several of his albums were much lesser quality than his earlier solo material, some only having one to a couple hit songs, but he definitely stepped that up when he released Off the Ground, Flaming Pie, and just about every album since. Not to mention his sold-out stadium tours ever since.
Maybe you are a new journalist. Here’s a little lesson for you. Get your facts straight, before making an a$$ out of yourself again…

Mike is right. Band on the Run and Ram alone beat 99.9% of the musical output of most acts. And that was after he changed the world and created the best catalog in music with the Beatles. Even Bob Dylan has said he is in awe of McCartney’s talent and Brian Wilson is a huge fan as well. Everyone from Elvis to Stevie Wonder to U2 to Marvin Gaye etc have covered his songs. His accomplishments are so great it is hard to take in and appreciate.
