Hong Kongers love to talk
p2pnet.net News:- Hong Kong’s youngest mobile phone owner is just six, and the ex-UK colony is Number One for having the highest penetration rate in Asia with 83% of its 6.8 million population owning a mobile phone.
The stats come in a TNS Asian telecoms report of 12 countries and quoted in an Agence France Presse story here. The numbers also show 29% of Hong Kong children aged 6 to 15 have a mobile, followed by 25% in Australia and Japan. New Zealand and Singapore came in third place with 24%. The regional average was 12%.
But talk rather than text is where it’s at in Hong Kong. The story also says only 43% of Hong Kong mobile users send text messages.
A Mobiledia story here says Hong Kongers use mobiles as a fashion accessories “chosen to match the occasion” – ie, “When going to parties, they tend to use a more stylish, trendy phones but when they go to work or school, they use a more conservative-looking phones”.
There are more than 100 types of handsets with “numerous accessories” including flashing colour antennas and hand and neck straps, flash stickers, Winnie the Pooh or Mickey Mouse mobile covers or stylish cases”.
