Free Coldplay CD
p2pnet news view Music:- “It’s happening more and more,” p2pnet posted almost exactly a year ago.
“While Vivendi Universal, EMI, Warner Music and Sony BMG whine and grizzle about how they`re being ‘devastated’ by their corrupt file sharing customers, individual performers and bands are looking to the Net as the medium of delivery in the 21st digital century with Coldplay the latest group to acknowledge cyberspace is where it`s at.
” ‘For years, people have been clamouring that Coldplay’s music isn’t worth paying for,” the Guardian says, going on:
” ‘Now, at last, the band themselves are bowing to pressure. Their new single, tickets to two upcoming concerts – yes, they`re giving it all away for free’.”
And apparently, it produced results. Because they’re doing it again.
Coldplay are to give away a free CD at every remaining live show in 2009, says the BBC, adding:
“Starting with the group’s first North American tour date in Florida on 15 May, fans will be given a copy of nine-track album LeftRightLeftRightLeft.
“The band said the giveaway was meant as a “recession-busting mark of gratitude” to their fans for supporting them.”
LeftRightLeftRightLeft will also be online from Coldplay’s website from May 15.
(Thanks, Michael)

Uhh….
How goddamn “loaded” can something purporting to be a “news” article be?
“Not worth paying for”. Yet again we get the unstated assumption that “commercializing” something makes it “better.”
Let’s not forget the back-handed “compliment” that only a totally shit band would actually resort to (gasp!) actually GIVING stuff away, instead of gouging.
The “Guardian” has an excuse for being this dumb — it’s a print newsrag, and anybody who still believes that print-media newsrags have anything to do with “journalism” needs to pull their head out of their ass.
What’s inexcusable is for this kind of “it’s free, therefore it sucks” propaganda is now infesting the blogosphere.
Way to implicitly diss your own “scene”, folks.

@Henry:
What is wrong with the Guardian? I find it’s articles more informative than CNN or Fox news. They print articles most don’t write about, such as what’s going on in Afghanistan or Iraq, from a people perspective, as opposed to a fear mongering support the war machine perspective like CNN or Fox.
BBC is pretty good as well, much more neutral than many sites. I found the Guardian to be neutral or left leaning, depending on the author, and subject.
Please explain your “print newsrag” comment.
