Will Souter’s successor target RIAA, MPAA?
p2pnet news view | P2P | Politics:- Bad news for the Hollywood and the Big 4 record labels.
US justice David Souter’s resignation from the US Supreme Court gave president Barack Obama an opportunity to explain he’s looking for someone who both respects the Constitution and will promote “empathy” and “understanding”.
“I will seek someone who understands that justice isn’t about some abstract legal theory or footnote in a casebook,” Obama says in an Associated Press YouTube video.
“It is also about how our laws affect the daily realities of people’s lives — whether they can make a living and care for their families, whether they feel safe in their homes and welcome in their own nation,” Obama declares.
Clearly, this spells trouble for Time Warner, Viacom, Fox, Sony, NBC Universal and Disney, and Vivendi Universal, EMI, Warner Music and Sony Music.
Because Americans certainly don’t feel safe in their homes with the entertainment cartels threatening to ruin their lives unless they toe the corporate line.
Reporting a massive surplus of almost $14 billion when the rest of the nation is virtually destitute, Hollywood claims it’s being devastated by file sharers, with Canada at the top of a US list of ‘pirate’ countries.
Vivendi Universal, EMI, Warner Music and Sony Music also chose “devastated” as the word which best describes their situation, setting their RIAA extortion squad on innocent men women and children across America, claiming the families house massive illegal online distributors of copyrighted music.
However, Obama’s words suggest he could be working with Souter’s successor to right the terrible wrongs inflicted principally by the record labels not only on adults, but also young children.
Perhaps.
Because maybe the news isn’t so bad for the entertainment cartels after all.
Obama promised to look after US citizens when he was elected but like his predecessor, George W. Bush, he’s nonetheless allowing the corporations to run wild, using America’s legal system as a weapon of attack in the interests of driving up profits and maintaining corporate control over consumers.
Best not to hold your breath.

Considering how the DOJ appointments went (you know he did that based on ADVICE of others)
I will keep an eye on this to see if he can redeam himself!!!
