Will Big Music save imeem?
p2pnet news view Music:- Is imeem on the verge of resurrection by Vivendi Universal, EMI, Warner Music and Sony Music?
“Insert your favorite cliche or idiom here: Imeem may have dodged a bullet. Or has risen from the ashes. They have nine lives. Or my favorite: they may have pulled a rabbit out of the deadpool.”
So says TechCrunch:
“Imeem, a social-networking site geared for music fans, has obtained new funding that in all likelihood saved the company from closing, according to music industry sources.”
And that’s CNet News, originator of the story.
“More importantly, the company has forged new deals with the music labels, we’ve heard, that help it break away from the crushing pay-per-stream model that’s impossible to cover with advertising,” says TechCrunch.
But, “Imeem made it clear that if it didn’t raise money soon, the situation was ‘dire,’ one source said,” according to CNet.
Will the labels pull imeem’s chestnuts out of the fire? And if they do, will anyone care?
The possibility is Big News in the closed, dark world of the corporate music industry.
But in Free Space where the bulk of music lovers live, it means nothing.

I use imeem from time to time, 3-5 times a month, maybe, to play along with a song on the guitar. Wouldn’t miss it much. I prefer free downloads over streaming.

I use imeem a lot too. but it takes time to load the songs so i still prefer free downloads too. yahoo music is quite fast but the yahoo music on the messenger is no longer available.
