PeerGuardian spyware alert
p2pnet.net News:- PeerGuardian is a configurable firewall designed to block the ravages (or attempted ravages ; ) of the RIAA, MPAA, scalp hunters hired by them, and other nasties.
Now some groups are re-releasing PG – bundled with spyware.
“If you’ve downloaded PeerGuardian from download.com, softpedia.com, zdnet or any other popular download sites, you may have been scammed into downloading a spyware-infested version of PeerGuardian,” says methlabs here, going on:
“Much of this can be attributed to openwares.org who have posed as ‘Publisher’ so that they could spread their spyware-infested, unofficial versions of our products through half-reputable download sites such as download.com.”
This isn’t new, however.
Once upon a time, spyware company WhenU.com, “leaders in contextual marketing” (nice one ; ) wanted to bundle its wares with PeerGuardian.
