‘We won’t be copyright cops,’ say UK ISPs
p2pnet news view | P2P | Politics:- Internet service providers’ associations are lining up against corporate entertainment cartel efforts to dragoon them into acting as copyright enforcement cyber police, funded by local taxpayers and the ISPs themselves.
The Big 4 record labels, Vivendi Universal, EMI, Warner Music and Sony Music, and Hollywood studios, Time Warner, Viacom, Fox, Sony, NBC Universal and Disney, have singularly and collectively failed to grasp the very simple concept that it’s really, really stupid to repeatedly attack the people who keep you in the money.
They also apparently believe ISPs similarly think screwing consumers makes good business sense.
However, “The Internet Service Providers’ Association, the umbrella group which represents ISPs in the UK, has rejected calls for them to monitor Internet usage and cut off users who repeatedly share copyrighted material,” says Bit-Tech, from whence came the pic on the right.
“In a statement, the group said that it believes disconnecting users is ‘a disproportionate response,’ which is a view supported by the European Parliament,” says the story, adding:
“The ISPA continues to dispute calls for disconnection of persistent copyright violators from some elements of the creative industries because it believes current technology will not stand up in court. ‘ISPA members have consistently explained that significant technological advances would be required if these members are to reach a standard where they would be admissible as evidence in court,’ read the statement.”

Now tell the counties governments this because most of them don’t agree.

This is kind of hypocritical.
They won’t be copyright cops, yet at the same time they will sure as hell accept money to sell off your personal info to the likes of phorm via both cell and internet.
