Geist and CRIA’s Sook, head-to-head

p2pnet news view | P2P | Music:- The Globe and Mail’s Download Decade turns to the issue of copyright.

The package includes a lengthy article on the issue, a global map of the copyfight, and the launch of a public wiki on copyright reform.

The wiki is an interesting initiative – the Globe plans to wrap it up on July 1st and send the results to the government.

There is also a video debate on copyright issues between CRIA lawyer Barry Sookman and me in which we were both asked the same questions and the responses run side-by-side.

Michael Geist
[Geist is the Canada Research Chair in Internet and E-commerce Law at the University of Ottawa. He can be reached by email at mgeist[at]uottawa.ca and is on-line at www.michaelgeist.ca.]

One Response to “Geist and CRIA’s Sook, head-to-head”

  1. Robert Says:

Sookman fails to explain how the US model is actually beneficial to anyone but corporations. At least Geist is smart enough to explain how the US model doesn’t work. Sookman doesn’t explain how creativity is actually helped by the Seagul Approach (formerly called “mine” times three).

At least our government isn’t pushing through legislation like the US does, without thinking first. They are doing what they do best, nothing!
