ASCAP just simply joined the side of the **AA because a) they were strong armed or b) they really are stupid and want to kill musical innovation by owning everything. When we hit rock bottom, that's when you'll see things actually change for the better. Until then, Congress/lobbyists/Commons will simply follow the **AA/ASCAP/SOCAN/et. al horses right off the cliff into the abyss. Then real artists that care about art will step in and say "we've had enough" and real consumers who love art will back them up. Since the labels will be in the abyss along with their support greed groups, they won't be able to do anything but change or remain in the abyss forever (which would be nice).
