Canada again attacked as Pirate Haven
p2pnet news view | P2P | Politics:-Canada has once again been singled out by entertainment cartel politicians for special attention.
Industry US members of congress are trumpeting about “alarming levels” of “piracy of copyrighted movies, music, video games and other entertainment”.
The Congressional International Anti-Piracy Caucus, headed on behalf of Hollywood and the Big 4 record labels by senators Sheldon Whitehouse and Orrin ‘Terminator’ Hatch, and congressmen Adam B. Schiff and Bob Goodlatte, yesterday “placed Canada, China, Mexico, Russia and Spain at the top of their ‘2009 International Piracy Watch List’,” says Agence France-Presse.
“These countries stand out because of the scope and depth of their piracy problems, which cost the US copyright industries and the millions of Americans who work in these companies billions of US dollars,” according to the cartel congress corps.
The entertainment industry politicians say they, “remain deeply concerned that Canada has failed to update its copyright laws to provide for online enforcement, making it a safe haven for Internet pirates.
“Canada’s enforcement record falls short of what should be expected of our neighbour and largest trading partner.”
Hollywood spokesman Dan ‘The Joker’ Glickman said it’s, “important to draw attention to the fact that Canada is lagging behind other Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development countries on its response to the tremendous technological changes that have occurred over the past decade as well as in facilitating a legitimate market for digital content to flourish.”
No doubt we’ll soon be hearing from Canadian prime minister Stephen Harper backing the cartel claims and promising to bring Canadian legislation more into line with corporate movie and music industry business interests.

Harper should grow a pair and tell these parasites where to go, but unfortunately, the latest crop of politicians only have one thing in mind, how far they can bend over to receive it from scum like Glickman, Sharman and the rest of the morons. The biggest thieves and copy right rip off artists are right there in the States and if it were up to me I’d tell them where to take their threats and if they didn’t back off as they have no real proof only their mouths then I’d haul their sorry asses into an international court of law in the Hague and have them charged with slander and libel as well as interfering with the internal politics of a sovereign nation.

amen logan…
Lobbyists should not be able to talk to Politicians behind closed doors, everything said should be recorded and posted online for all to see.
This would prevent dirty deals that only harm the public and line corporate scum pockets.

PM Harper will say “we’re working on that now sir” and do nothing, much like our government says to its own people.
@Reader’s Write:
For it to be possible for lobbyists to have to be held accountable for what they say and do, politicians would have to listen to people and information instead of simply taking money and doing what they are told.
And we all know that won’t ever change!

For a second, I thought Dan was talking about the Entertainment Industry.
It’s funny how they keep spinning this idea that the “failure” to automatically rewrite our laws to support THEIR outdated business model is somehow a demonstration of us being “behind the times”.

One word: ACTA
Canada has shown to be most reticent about it, and these public pronunciations are pressure for them to step back in line privately.

the US has been using trade sanctions to control other countries, far too effectively as far as i am concerned. i think it is time that other nations leaders grew some balls and decided to take them up on it. trade with other nations, till the US itself finds itself short on trade due to the way it treats its trade partners. it is a large nation. but it falls far short of being the whole world. maybe then their domineering attitude will change. but as long as they can get there way with threats they will. just like any bully.

Dear Americans,
Keep your: heavy handed laws, 25% of the worlds prisoners, military industrial complex, and complete disregard for the rest of the world… south of the border.
I actually like it here, thanks.
