p2pnet news view | P2P | Politics:- The manner in which three foreign record labels, and a fourth run by a Canadian, are using the American legal system to quite literally terrorise innocent people as part of a bid to control online music distribution, is a scandal that’s been going on for years.
And it’s continuing under the Obama presidency.
The two most recent, and most glaring, examples centre on Minnesota mother Jammie Thomas, and Michigan student Brittany Kruger, both of whom have had their lives not merely upset, but torn apart, by Vivendi Universal (France), Sony (Japan), EMI (Britain), and Warner Music (American, but controlled by a Canadian) and their RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America).
In a further disgrace, the RIAA has somehow managed to shoehorn six of its henchmen into the Obama Department of Justice.
Nor should we forget vice president Joe Biden is an avowed supporter of not only the Big 4, but also the to major Hollywood studios, Time Warner, Viacom, Fox, Sony, NBC Universal and Disney, who are using their political connections in their efforts to force countries such as Canada into toeing the corporate line.
Obama is being blamed for, on the one hand, claiming to represent the people, and, on the other, for allowing this kind of thing to continue unacknowledged and unremedied — and unhindered.
But it’s entirely possible he’s literally unaware of it.
Now, however, there may be a way to bring this forcibly to his attention.
“I direct the Chief Technology Officer, in coordination with the Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and the Administrator of General Services, to coordinate the development by appropriate executive departments and agencies, within 120 days, of recommendations for an Open Government Directive, to be issued by the Director of OMB, that instructs executive departments and agencies to take specific actions implementing the principles set forth in this memorandum,” says Obama.
And he says it under yesterday’s Transparency and Open Government post directed at “the heads of executive departments and agencies”.
Here’s what Obama promises under his Open Government Directive »»»
My Administration is committed to creating an unprecedented level of openness in Government. We will work together to ensure the public trust and establish a system of transparency, public participation, and collaboration. Openness will strengthen our democracy and promote efficiency and effectiveness in Government.
Government should be transparent. Transparency promotes accountability and provides information for citizens about what their Government is doing. Information maintained by the Federal Government is a national asset. My Administration will take appropriate action, consistent with law and policy, to disclose information rapidly in forms that the public can readily find and use. Executive departments and agencies should harness new technologies to put information about their operations and decisions online and readily available to the public. Executive departments and agencies should also solicit public feedback to identify information of greatest use to the public.
Government should be participatory. Public engagement enhances the Government’s effectiveness and improves the quality of its decisions. Knowledge is widely dispersed in society, and public officials benefit from having access to that dispersed knowledge. Executive departments and agencies should offer Americans increased opportunities to participate in policymaking and to provide their Government with the benefits of their collective expertise and information. Executive departments and agencies should also solicit public input on how we can increase and improve opportunities for public participation in Government.
Government should be collaborative. Collaboration actively engages Americans in the work of their Government. Executive departments and agencies should use innovative tools, methods, and systems to cooperate among themselves, across all levels of Government, and with nonprofit organizations, businesses, and individuals in the private sector. Executive departments and agencies should solicit public feedback to assess and improve their level of collaboration and to identify new opportunities for cooperation.
Executive departments and agencies should solicit public feedback to assess and improve their level of collaboration and to identify new opportunities for cooperation?
And since only one of the companies attacking US citizens can even vaguely be said to be an American, it should be acceptable for people outside the US to let go Obama know what they think, should it not?

“Obama is being blamed for… allowing this kind of thing to continue unacknowledged and unremedied — and unhindered.”
He has two wars and a broken economy to worry about, I think he has better things to do.

“he has better things to do.”
That attitude is a large part of the problem.
Cheers!
