Fallacy as ‘fact’
p2pnet.net News:- ‘Get rich on p2p company’ Akonix has stolen a page out of senator Orrin ‘Terminator’ Hatches’ How to Scam the Media manual.
Claiming it can block file sharing by employees using BitTorrent, “Akonix Enforcer protects corporate networks from the business and security risks associated with P2P file sharing,” it says in a puff release, going on:
“Employees can also inadvertently share files containing sensitive information, and the P2P application installer may automatically share files or folders – including password files – without the user’s knowledge.”
“When used as intended, this software [p2p] automatically redistributes every file downloaded,” said Hatch recently. “This makes uploading and redistribution automatic and invisible to the average user.”
Was this blind ignorance or a deliberate ‘mistake’? Ask Hatch.
Morpheus’ Mike Weiss corrected Hatch saying, “At no time and under no circumstances are users’ hard drives (or, indeed any files in their computers) automatically made available to other users.”
It’s interesting how Hatch keeps making ‘mistakes’ which are subsequently picked up and quoted elsewhere.
“What this ‘product’ does is block access to a file-transfer protocol that is widely used in many different fields, from providing Congressional hearings footage to delivering urgently needed software like the Windows XP Service Pack 2, to shipping entire operating systems like the many Linux distros that circulate via BT,” says a boingboing post here.
