BBC web page ‘murder’ spoof
p2pnet.net News:- Spoofers mimicked the BBC’s news site with a “Sweden’s King murdered” story, following up with an announcement that King Carl XVI Gustaf had been shot in Athens after watching Swedish table tennis star Jan-Ove Waldner beat Germany’s Timo Boll.
“Swedish newspaper Expressen said the page had been sent by email to an unquantified number of Hotmail internet addresses,” says News(24).com here, going on to quote Royal Palace spokeswoman Elisabeth Tarras-Wahlberg as saying: “It’s really very bad taste,” the newspaper quoted. It goes beyond the limit.”
The layout closely imitated the BBC’s and, “also included genuine items such as the latest from Najaf in Iraq and the Olympics in order to enhance its appearance of credibility,” says the report.
