Piolet beta released

p2pnet.net News:- It’s here – Pablo Soto’s long-awaited Piolet.

At this point, it’s still in beta but it’s now available for public consumption.

p2pnet had a few false starts getting the release up and running over the weekend. But Soto burned the midnight oil – literally – and now, everything is cool.

Manolito is the internal protocol name for Soto’s Gnutella-based p2p network which uses the User Datagram Protocol for search routing. It kicked off in Optisoft’s Blubster and, later, on Piolet, which started life as Soto’s personal p2p app.

Piolet is guaranteed adware / spyware free “and will stay that way,” Soto told p2pnet.

“It’s the kind of free p2p software that I can tell my mom to install,” he said, emphasizing its privacy-enhancing features and the fact it focuses on specialization, functionality and, more importantly, strong encryption.

“Nothing is 100%,” he says, “But I wanted Piolet to be the best there is.”

With the new Piolet on the verge of going online full blast, will it rival the other networks?

Quite possibly.

Piolet has two advantages:

1 – It’s acquired a certain mystique by virtue of the fact the p2p community has been waiting for some time to see what it has to offer; and,

2 – The entertainment industry was soundly defeated in the p2p Appeal Court hearing. Developers of new apps had been waiting to see which way the hammer would fall before committing themselves and Piolet is literally the first release, albeit a beta version, in the new climate.

Does Pablo resemble Bram Cohen, Bittorrent developer?

  2. Reader's Write Says:

The download page on Download.com specifically states that the Piolet installation includes Adware in it. I haven’t tested it, but Download.com is supposed to be reliable in such matters.

yes the last stable release comes bundled with optional adware..you are free to opt out of it if you wish. This beta comes with nothing, totally adware/spyware free.
