MSN music vs iTunes

p2pnet.net News:- It isn’t much, but it’s all there is – for the corporate e-music community anyway.

Real world music lovers swap and share music online in their billions – quite literally – as they wait for the music industry to start using p2p for sales and distribution. But the Big Four record labels continue to parcel out the same 750,000 cookie-cutter tracks through the various plastic music sites and applications such as Apple’s iTunes and Roxio’s (oops, Napster’s) Napster.

Nor is there any variety in ‘product’. Each corporate site gets the same tracks as the one next door. And each ’store’ tries to sell this identical product at virtually the same prices.

It’s the Big Music idea of competition: it, and only it, wins.

However, "Expect Microsoft to announce its long-anticipated foray into the online music business this week, raising the competitive stakes for the current market leader, Apple," says a Mercury News story here, going on:

"Microsoft plans to quietly launch the MSN online music store with the new version of its Windows Media 10 player.

"Early-release versions of the player look like knock-offs of Apple’s iTunes Music Store, complete with brushed nickel finish. But hey, why mess with success?"

Apple’s iTunes is slow to respond and keeps installing its spyware to my system tray. Microsoft always had a better player, although it’s not as good as WinAmp. I will switch in a minute when MS player comes out unless it’s as bloated as Apple’s stuff.

what system tray icon? you mean the quicktime icon? just go to quicktime prefs and go to browser plugin and deselect the system tray icon. maybe it’s slow to respond on your computer cause you have a slow computer. my itunes real fast on my athlon xp 2400+ and even works on my pentium II 300 mhz. and remember, itunes is just a port of the mac version and was originally intended for mac so you cant expect it to be fast.

…it would be faster if you got a mac…
