Culture minister applauds Pirate Bay ruling

p2pnet news view | P2P | Politics:- With the upcoming EU elections in the background, and the fact the Swedish Pirate Party is in there with a chance, Lena Adelsohn-Liljeroth told delighted music industry reps she’s happy with the sentences handed out to the The Pirate Bay four.

“This may not be appreciated by everyone, but I was one of those who was pleased with the verdict in the Pirate Bay case,” the Swedish minister of culture, said, according to TorrentFreak.

Music industry insiders, “cheered during her speech,” says the story.

However, her remarks may not only have been out of place, they might also have been on unconstitutional.

“In Sweden there is a so called rule of ministers (Ministerstyre) which makes it unconstitutional for ministers and other members of parliament to influence individual cases handled by government agencies,” says the story, going on »»»

Marie Demker, professor of political science at University of Gothenburg told SVD in a comment, “Since the verdict has been appealed, the process of justice isn’t concluded. In that case, it’s a very gray area to take side in an issue that’s politically discussed, both with the issue of bias and as an important topic in the EU elections.

This will spread throughout social media and it will affect voters. The Minister’s comment is like an elephant stomping through a china shop.

Indeed, “it is not unlikely that the Swedish voters will distance themselves even more from established politicians such as Adelsohn-Liljeroth, which may benefit the Pirate Party’s march towards Brussels,” she adds in the story.

The damage caused by the pest in entairtainment industry is all too obvious.

It is time to clean the society from these parasiteds once and for all.

  2. BuggerMeButtocks Says:

    My post too ‘risque’ Jon?

  3. Jon Says:

    Not risque. Just pointless.

    Cheers! :)

  4. Reader's Write Says:

It was a smart strategic move on her part. If she were to decide to run for elective office, she can now expect the campaign contributions to come flooding in. I don’t know about Sweden – but at least in the USA, the candidate with significantly more money virtually always wins the race.

Although surveys show the people of Sweden to be very pro-filesharing, the government officials will probably never be, in part because of the vast sums of money that the entertainment media industry has to throw their way. Although Sweden has traditionally been regarded as having one of the least corrupt governments in the world ….. just wait ’til the *AA’s get through with them!

I agree with what RW said above. Basically she just opened her wallet/purse.

There is no such thing as campaign contributions in Sweden, at least nowhere near the model that exists in the US. Well, legally speaking, of course…
