Cher says Universal owes her $5 million
p2pnet news view Music:- ‘I got sued, Babe’.
Nice one.
It’s the headline to a New York Times story saying Cher is suing Big 4 music gang member Universal Music Group on behalf of herself and the heirs of her ex-husband, Sonny Bono.
She wants $5 million.
Universal executives, “engaged in wrongful tactics” that prevented her and Sonny’s heirs, “from receiving revenues they are owed from compilation albums,” says the story.
Not only but also, “the lawsuit claims that the company sold a ‘Cher Greatest Hits’ record internationally and hid the proceeds from that in their international branch,”" says Perez Hilton.
The complaint states: “Instead of reporting to and paying plaintiffs their share of the revenues generated by Warner UK, UMG Recordings, in an egregious example of self-dealing, apparently inserted Universal International as a middleman in the transaction for the sole purpose of diverting money that rightfully belonged to Plaitinffs to Universal International.”
Surely Not !!!
“What a bunch of thieves Gypsys, tramps, and thieves!” Perez adds.
Another nice one.
(Thanks, Marc)

“Oh Downloading is Stealing from the ARTISTS” they say.

this is not surprising, the industry has been screwing artists for decades.
Cher should join the millions fighting the RIAA and start promoting her music the same way Trent has been.
Free for low quality and pay for high quality…
Seems to work for artists that make more from concerts than recordings.

Hmm… first the Sonny Bono Act to ensure “heirs” get a free ride off of “I’ve Got You Babe” for up to 120yrs (author’s life + 70 yrs) or 95 yrs after publication. Now this? Sounds like these particular “artists” are in it for the money! No wonder they helped create such a ridiculous copy’right’ extension!

Somewhat ironic, I’d say.
Cher’s dead first husband was instrumental in creating the current copyright trend, which was supposedly to “establish fairer deals for the artists”.
Oh! What a tangled web we weave!

The art of “creative accounting” has always been standard practice in the record industry. More than a few artists have wondered how the royalties owed them somehow always seem to get eaten up by “expenses” – as typical in the industry’s food chain, the artists always get paid last (whatever crumbs are left).

while the IRS looks sideways, as always.
