Canadian teen had Facebook ‘hit list’

p2pnet news view | Crime:- An 18-year-old British Columbia student at Vancouver’s Templeton Secondary School is still in police custody after posting a ‘hit list’ on social advertising site Fa$ebook.

He was arrested after six students told police about the list, says the Vancouver Province.

“Police also seized a slew of weapons, including a sawed-off shotgun, a machete, a sword, ammunition, a knife and two collapsible metal batons,” says the story.

He’s charged with, “careless use of a firearm, storage of a firearm contrary to regulations, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a firearm, knowingly possessing a firearm without a licence, possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition and possession of a firearm with an altered serial number,” it says.

The list named 117 people, 71 of  them students and teachers, says the Globe and Mail, quoting police inspector Scott Thompson as saying six students came forward, some of whom were on the list.

“Whatever their rationale, they decided to come forward, which was a good thing. When you examine other school-based incidents across North America, it’s a very common pattern that other classmates of the individuals involved are aware that something is wrong,” he says in the story.

Police were, “not entirely sure the youth was serious about acting on his hit list, did not know when he might have been planning to act, or where he might have acquired his arsenal,” the story adds.
