Net TV. Coming soon?
p2pnet.net News:- A new California company says it plans to bridge the gap between broadband and video with a $230 player sporting an 80-gig hard-drive able to store up to 200 digital video for instant TV viewing, and a $10 a basic month subscription fee.
The Akimbon System will let users connect via their wireless home networks, or directly to their ethernet connections, says the company.
It’ll offer feature films from CinemaNow, GreenCine, CinemaPop and Diversity Media, indie movies from FilmClix and shorts from IFILM and Amaze Films, it states on its web page.
“The San Mateo-based startup, which delayed its launch date from the summer to October after it hit technical snags, appears poised to be the first to deliver an Internet-to-TV video-on-demand service,” says an Associated Press story here. “Akimbo is targeting an audience that craves more than the programming on conventional TV and cable networks.’
AP also points out that SBC Communications and EchoStar Communications have teamed up to launch an online movie-on-demand service next year and that TiVo is also working on ways to connect Web content to the TV screen.
