Bill Gates’ P2P App

p2pnet.net News:- It’s an oldie, but …

… the Windows XP Peer-to-Peer Software Development Kit, “contains all software required to create decentralized applications that harness the collective power of edge of the network PCs,” says the DL site here.

Bill’s P2P App comes with all the necessary bits and pieces such as: p2p Application Programming Interface (API), p2p headers and libraries, sample applications, source code, and documentation for each of the p2p core areas, eg, scalable and secure peer-to-peer name resolution, “efficient multi-point communications, creation and management of persistent p2p groups,” and distributed data management.

To do anything with it, you have to have the the Advanced Networking Pack for Windows XP installed. To obtain the Advanced Networking Pack for Windows XP, please see the appropriate link in the Related Resources section.

Download Bill’s P2P App here. The pack is here.

a few first-time P2P developers have used this MS widget kit – they say it is a time saver. But many P2P users scoff at the idea of a DotNet application.

What is it about a microsoft p2p program that makes me somewhat distrustful. Somehow I get the feeling that there is some kind of means of monitoring or a backdoor that microsoft can use to avoid liability should INDUCE pass.

  3. Reader's Write Says:

lol, exactly what I was going to say.

This could get interesting… one could argue that it’s obvious the intent of this kit is to encourage the development of file sharing applications. I would love to see the MPAA/RIAA go up againt Microsoft. Talk about a battle of the titans.

Heh, but then Microsoft could just pull the plug on all the Windows OSes the MPAA/RIAA are using in their organization. After all, you don’t own the software, just a license to use it. Microsoft retains the right to say “you can’t use this anymore” at any point. Read the EULA carefully.

    I can’t wait. =)
