Whatâs in a (Facebook) name? Part Deux
p2pnet news view | Advertising:- “We wanted to let you know that we decided to reserve usernames for the key journalists and outlets we work with.”
So says Michael Arrrington on TechCrunch, talking about an email he’d received in reference to the latest Not Hot Online Event.
“Look out for an email from someone on the communications team with more details,” is said, and, “Other writers here at TechCrunch got the same email.”
As p2pnet noted yesterday, “Fa$ebook users ID themselves with their real names, with the exception of, ‘Web address for your profile or the Facebook Pages you administer,’ says the FB blog.
“This URL, ‘was just a randomly assigned number like `id=592952074,’ it says.
“But that`ll soon change, it states, adding, ‘Starting at 12:01 a.m. EDT on Saturday, June 13, you`ll be able to choose a username on a first-come, first-serve basis for your profile and the Facebook Pages that you administer by visiting www.facebook.com/username/’.”
“While the masses (that’s you) will be fighting for that perfect name on Friday night, some lucky few people won’t need to bother waiting in line,” says Arrington.
Employees at the social advertising site, “have already grabbed theirs (taking Facebook.com/Mike, which is what I wanted).”

I feel sort of bad about posting this, since Facebook is actually doing us a favor. But I also think it`s kind of BS that Facebook is giving some people, employees included, first shot at the names. My guilt only extends so far, though. You suckers wait in line. I`m grabbing my name in advance.
Wonder why we didn’t get a Fa$ebook email?
Meanwhile, are you among the fighting masses?
heh
