Your Right to Know: censored
p2pnet.net News:- “Speaking About Government (and IP), here’s a Must-Read!” - says a p2pnet Reader’s Write posted under our US gov’ment’s disappearing data story.
It links back to an amazing item centering on a 22-minute “Humphrey Bogart-themed video” called “The People’s Right to Know”.
The Defense Department spent $70,500 to produce the movie to teach employees to respond to citizen requests for information, says Ted Bridis’ Associated Press story here, continuing:
“But when it came to showing the tape to the public, the Pentagon censored some of the footage.
“Officials said they blacked out parts of the training video with the message, “copyrighted material removed for public viewing,” because they were worried the government didn’t have legal rights to some historical footage that was included.”
An edited version has since been released and it acknowledges the irony of censoring a video promoting government openness, says Bridis, quoting said Suzanne Council of the Army Office of the Chief Attorney, which gave advice to censor the scenes because of copyright concerns, as saying:
“We knew it would be embarrassing.”
We had a look around for a copy, but unfortunately, all we could come up with was a boingboing post with a link pointing to a Real ‘video’.
If you have better luck, let us know.
