Spielberg honoured in France
p2pnet.net News:- A Hollywood movie-director has received the highest award given by the French Republic for outstanding service to France.
Steven Spielberg is now a knight in the Légion d’Honneur because of his “ability to touch people,” says a Reuters story here, quoting French president Jacques Chirac.
The report has Chirac saying films such as Schindler’s List “ensured the world did not forget about acts of heroism in dark periods of history”.
The Légion d’Honneur was created by Napoleon Bonaparte in l802 and is awarded for heroism, among other acts.
“Unfortunately, our Légion d’Honneur doesn’t mean anything anymore,” says Ratiatum.com editor Gullaume Champeau. “As of 1999, only 65% have been given to soldiers and the like. But 97% were awarded to the military under Napoleon. Now, one third goes to the civilian population, including sportsmen (yep, many of our Olympic Gamers are granted the precious Légion d’Honneur), writers, economists (25% of the civil share !), and so on.”
[Never mind Guillaume. The same thing happens across the channel with British knighthoods - Ed].
By an amazing coincidence, Spielberg is also in France to promote his latest movie, ‘The Terminal, “a romantic comedy starring Tom Hanks,” says Reuters.

“The same thing happens across the channel with British knighthoods.”
Right! Sir Paul McC, Sir Elton J. What a farce! It degrades the knighthoods given to people such as Sir Tim Berners-Lee.
I just did a search on the Légion d’Honneur and Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton and Martin Scorsese also have it.
