New Net speed record
p2pnet.net News:- Yet another Net speed record has been set.
Eight-hundred-and-fifty-nine gigs of data were fired across 16,000 klicks of computer networks at about 6.63 gigs per second in in less than 17 minutes by scientists at Caltech the California Institute of Technology) and CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research).
It’s also the first time the 100 petabit (1,000,000,000,000,000 bits) meter per second mark record has been broken.
It’s fascinating stuff and it’ll have practical applications.
"People will be able to form ‘virtual organizations’ of planetary scale, sharing in a flexible way their collective computing and data resources," says PhysOrg.com here. "In particular, this is vital for projects on the frontiers of science and engineering, projects such as particle physics, astronomy, bioinformatics, global climate modeling, and seismology."
