‘Disband the RIAA’: Moby
p2pnet news view RIAA | P2P:- “argh. what utter nonsense. this is how the record companies want to protect themselves?”
That’s Moby on the Big Music vs Jammie Thomas-Rasset PR (for Vivendi Universal, EMI, Warner Music and Sony Music) disaster.
“Suing suburban moms for listening to music? charging $80,000 per song?” blogs Moby, going on »»»
punishing people for listening to music is exactly the wrong way to protect the music business. maybe the record companies have adopted the ‘it’s better to be feared than respected’ approach to dealing with music fans.
i don’t know, but ‘it’s better to be feared than respected’ doesn’t seem like such a sustainable business model when it comes to consumer choice.
how about a new model of ‘it’s better to be loved for helping artists make good records and giving consumers great records at reasonable prices’?
i’m so sorry that any music fan anywhere is ever made to feel bad for making the effort to listen to music.
the riaa needs to be disbanded.
It does. And so do Vivendi Universal (France), Sony (Japan), EMI (Britain), and Warner Music (US).
(Cheers, Crosbie)

check this out.. ‘you never really owned your music, and we erased your archives ability to play, but you can but another copy’
http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=7271611&l=feefec372d&id=623900290
so, if you buy DRM music, expect :
1) you paid for nothing.
2) you dont own what you pay for.
3) RIAA can erase your playlist at whim.
4) you can always buy ANOTHER ‘iteration’ DRM copy for more money (refer to 1.).
wtf?

@Surfer:
Have you checked out Stephen Colbert’s thoughts on this? He once said he has a warehouse full of CD’s, a new CD purchased for each time he wished to listen to a song, even ones he already owned.
His wording was more eloquent but you get the humour.
That’s what, ideally, the labels would want.

thats exactly the issue here Robert, the MAFIAA refuse to accept that digital copies are infinite good worth about as much as a can of air. they think that each time they roll out a new format (8-track, vinyl, cassette, CD, DVD, BluRay) that the entire population of the planet should go back out and buy another copy of something they already own. I think it was Henri that posted once that he should be able to will the content of his digital archive to his family, because digital copies will last forever (more or less), he shouldnt have to have his siblings purchase copies he already bought.
this is why the MAFIAA loves DRM, because they can break your digital copy, and then you need another one, for more money.
now THATS criminal…

Well said gentlemen, exactly why I won’t buy drm’d crap.
Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate’s life for me.
We pillage, we plunder, we rifle, and loot,
Drink up, me ‘earties, yo ho.
We kidnap and ravage and don’t give a hoot,
Drink up me ‘earties, yo ho.
Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate’s life for me.
We extort, we pilfer, we filch, and sack,
Drink up, me ‘earties, yo ho.
Maraud and embezzle, and even high-jack,
Drink up, me ‘earties, yo ho.

Don’t stop with music; much of Hollywood needs to be shut down, as well as any corporation that puts its interests ahead of the right thing to do, or propaganda ahead of truth.

Eric if we’re going to do that we might as well just toss out the whole capitalist system as a fail experiment… not that I’m in disagreement with the idea, of course.

*failed experiment, Cheveyo’s law strikes again.
