Spain says NO to cartel 3 strikes law

p2pnet news view Freedom | P2P:- The Spanish “cultural industry” has decided entertainment kartell efforts to force governments to deputise local ISPs as corporate copyright cops are a No Go.

Instead, it’ll target BitTorrent trackers.

The Coalition of Creators and Content Industries has accepted the proposed disconnection of Internet users who ignore warnings not to download illegally is, “no longer an option,” says Billboard, going on »»»

“The about-turn by the Coalition of Creators and Content Industries follows indications that the government will refuse to implement any kind of ‘three-strikes’ scheme.

“In his first public appearance as Coalition president, Aldo Olcese [right] acknowledged that users are ‘our current and future clientele,’ and that punitive measures were out of the question,” says the story, quoting him as stating

We have no desire to criminalize Internet users who download illegally.

But the heat is by no means off.

“The Coalition will now concentrate its anti-piracy message against the activity of P2P BitTorrent tracker services,” says the story, adding:

“Olcese claimed that there were now 200 such Web sites in Spain, compared to just 70 a few months ago.”

In France, president Nicolas Sarkozy is still defying the wishes of the French people in his efforts to dance to the entertainment industry Three-Strikes tune.

As I understand the law in Spain, Jon, isn’t this statement an oxymoron. Downloading for personal use is entirely LEGAL in Spain…
