"Now, “By defending copyright I do not just defend the artistic creation, I also defend my idea of a free society where freedom of each is based on respect for the rights of others,” NetEco has him saying, adding:

“It is also the future of our culture that I defend. It is the future of creation.”"

Oh yeah... freedom for everyone except women wearing burkas(sp?) since that is not their choice they were forced to do that. Because Islam is a terrorist organisation if you ask Sarkozy and they dominate people. But we will defend everyones freedom to express themselves. Oh wait...

At this rate, the MAFIAA will do better to go back to their "sue 'em all" campaign. They're certainly having better luck with it lately.

“It is also the future of our culture that I defend. It is the future of creation.”

If it is the Sarkozy culture it will not be a big lost!

What do Sarkozy know about the french culture? he can bearly read and can not write 3 french word without making at least 3 errors!

Since he became president all the official document are full of spelling and gramatical errors!

or may be he is confusing the crapy lyrics of Carla Bruni distributed by Vivendique Univers-sale for the French culture.

Sarkozy doesn't give a damn about "defend[ing] the artistic creation". All this selfish politician is interested in is himself (and maybe Carla...). He just changed a fundamental french law that didn't allow the french president to adress to the Houses of Parliament at Versailles for much more than 100 years. Finally, yesterday he was "allowed" to. By his own law.
Well - lately, the French "3-strikes-law" finally was rejected. But guess what - Monsieur le president also will find his way to break this law against 3-strikes-nonsense. Because he is narcistic. Because his own will is the only law by grace of Sarkozy. Because Sarkozy is Nicolas II. and Louis XV united with the whole Napoleon bunch. This guy will break every law as well as capo Berlusconi d'Italia already did. You may Sarkozy call a clown. Or Berlusconi. But they aren't. Currently, they are the most dangerous men in Europe. Ruthless, powerfull, greedy and selfish to the bone. And they always do and get what they want.
Here's my simple question. If those politicians don't respect their own legislative but constantly warp and break the law to their own best - how do they expect "their" people to respect any law for any longer?

Ditto Surfer.

“By defending copyright I do not just defend the artistic creation, I also defend my idea of a free society where freedom of each is based on respect for the rights of others,” NetEco quotes Sarkosky saying.

Obvious tool is obvious.

What he doesn't mention... the people of France can still respect the rights of others by copying and innovating peoples work, while lining pockets of the original creators. His opinion of a free society is not his own but that of vested interests. A family member of mine has participated in several protests while on an exchange program in France and from what I gather the people aren't going to take his shit.

"The future of creation" will be dead if the **AA groups had their way. They'd be so tied up with licensing movies would be worse than Disney's habit of re-releasing their old stuff every decade with "new scenes" added.

Maybe if Sarkozy could focus his energy on the actual economic problems instead of some ridiculous civil matter brought up my people unwilling to change or adapt to something they don't understand, France could help pull the EU out of the economic slump.

"How can we accept that the rules that apply to society as a whole are not binding on the Internet?"

Like the rule that everyone is innocent until proven guilty? - or that everyone is entitled to a fair trial?
