1. Iggy Pop is just pissed because Marilyn Manson, NIN, Korn, and Slipknot stole his thunder. :)

2. The reason people like the Beatles, Hendrix, Zepplin, etc. were better, is because they were willing to actually experiment and try things -- they didn't conform to some lowest common denominator, cookie-cutter "formula". "Pop" music is the problem, really -- any genre can be dumbed-down, bled dry, and turned into the equivalent of Muzak -- contrast "new" country with George Jones' early stuff, for instance.)

 3. Did I mention Iggy's trying to be "relevant" by being all cynical and badass? That's the new "in" thing, yknow.

 4. "Talented artists nowadays": uhh.....Nickelback? Slipknot? "My Chemical Romance?"

 5. Just curious, Deadboy: you wouldn't happen to be "Emo", would you? (No offense meant by that -- I'm just trying to wrap my mind around the whole "Emo" thing, is all.)

Deadboy you have it wrong.
The talent was more creative in the sixties and seventies and the sound reinforcement technology was poor in those days.
The jimi hendrix band was cursed with technical problems because he used to play his fender statocaster so fucking loud....

I can't argue with black sabbath led zeppelin the who deep purple jimi hendrix the doors janis joplin yes genesis buddy guy bb king the gream marshall tucker band allman brothers eric clapton jack bruce robin trower vanilla fudge john mclaughlin miles davis thelonious monk grateful dead james brown war sly stone bt express average white band george clinton and funkadelic and the atomic dog and many many more.........

Alternative and rap music i don't even understand. Just a lot of noise.

it's not even old school soul like the motown years and the british invasion.

The recording technology has improved since 1969 since the valve tube instrument and pa system that always broke down because it was pushed beyond it's design limits but the talent sure has hell has not gotten any better.

“Even a mid-level cumbia band in Venezuela sounds better than the biggest-selling rock bands,” he says.

I love rock, but not really the rock comes from the biggest selling rock bands.
Some of today's Indie rock is as awesome as the stuff we got in the early '70s.
It's just limited to those who scope the net for it.
