Intel vision of the future

p2pnet.net News:- Intel’s cto Pat Gelsinger has a vision of the Net under strain, stretched to bursting by millions of users and their systems.

The solution?

You guessed it: Chipzilla.

During his concluding address at the Intel Developer Forum, Gelsinger’s view of CyberSpace is one which, “involves the deployment of Intel-based servers as new network nodes that can handle more complex tasks such as dynamic traffic routing and advanced security,” says an DG News Service story here.

It goes on:

“Intel has already deployed 440 nodes at 194 separate sites around the globe under its PlanetLab initiative, Gelsinger said. PlanetLab is an industry research association that counts companies such as Intel, Hewlett-Packard Co., France Télécom SA and Google Inc. among its members.”

The report adds that Intel and HP believe that a business opportunity exists within the PlanetLab project and the two companies plan to start commercializing the technology very soon, according to Gelsinger.

Believe it because Intel, which has just announced that it’ll offer dual core ‘two-in-one’ microprocessors across all product lines starting next year, could probably use a little help from its friends.

Revenues for its three-month period ending September 30 will be lower than expected, it says.
