Trade groups lobby China over Green Dam
p2pnet news view Freedom | P2P:- Twenty-two chambers of commerce and trade groups have made a direct appeal to Chinese Communist leader Wen Jiabao to halt the country’s implementation of the so-called Green Dam Youth Escort, due to go into effect this Wednesday.
Green Dam is censor-ware Chinese PC makers have been ordered to install on all systems starting on July 1, supposedly to filter pornography.
The letter represents the world’s major technology suppliers and, “adds to pressure on Beijing to halt the plan following an official protest by Washington,” says the Associated Press.
Signed by leaders of the American, European and Japanese chambers of commerce in China, the U.S. National Association of Manufacturers and trade groups representing the world’s major technology suppliers, the letter says Green Dam, “seems to run counter to China’s important goal of becoming a vibrant and dynamic information-based society,” according to the story.

These technology companies like Cisco were playing on the terms of Chinese government so that they can make money on the Chinese market.
Too bad US did not ban Cisco from the US market for that. But this is because US wants to have its cut in taxes too.
