Canada Pirate Party, Ahoy! ;p
p2pnet news view | P2P | Politics:- Canada is another step closer to launching its own Pirate Party with which to take on the Powers That Used To Be.
At the helm, for the moment, is Rob Britton who, via a p2pnet Reader’s Write, told us he’d set up a forum for the Pirate Party of Canada at http://www.piratepartyofcanada.com/forum.
“We are currently in the process of setting up legal entities with which we can manage funds and coordinate to form a legal federal party,” he says.
I asked him if a logo has been chosen. Not yet, he said, but in the running is this brilliant (IMHO
) effort by Rafe in British Columbia, p2pnet’s home province. heh. And so far, I gather I’m the only person on Vancouver Island who’s expressed an interest.
I guarantee I’ll join the partry as soon as soon it’s official, Rob!
“I started the piratepartyofcanada.com website afew weeks ago after seeing some discussion in the PP-International forums and realized that there wasn’t a site or really anything up,” he says, adding:
“Since then I’ve been working with several other people who are interested in building a website, defining our goals, etc.
“I’ve also been doing a fair bit of research towards registering a legal entity and afterward, a federal party.
“We’ve had a lot of people show interest and some are providing some support through our Facebook group
and hopefully soon our Twitter user (piratepartyca).”
Right now, “the best thing we can get is publicity, so that those who are interested in supporting us know that we are here and will join us,” says Rob.
Definitely stay tuned.

The sad reality of the American-style winner-take-all election system is that 3rd parties get completely shut out of the government and serve as nothing more than a wasted protest vote.
I greatly prefer the Party-list proportional representation system so common in Europe, as it guarantees minority parties an equal voice and even enables them to combine forces to defeat the dominant party’s objectives. That’s true democracy.

“That’s true democracy.”
As a proud Canadian I completely agree.
