DV8 bust, RAGEMP3, BPI Keystone Kops

p2pnet news view Freedom | P2P:- My initial article on the DV8 bust slanted DV8 as a bunch of kids with no penchant for security.

I was wrong. This was an incorrect assumption on my part. They seem to be a quality release group that had affiliations with RAGEMP3 in some fashion.

The official bullshit ‘report’ is as follows:

‘A 33 year-old man believed to have links with a group leaking pre-release music on to file-sharing networks was arrested in Portsmouth on Tuesday, June 16, following a joint enquiry by BPI and IFPI, representing the recording industry in the UK and internationally, in conjunction with the City of London Police and the Intellectual Property Office.’ – IFPI

After additional research (MusicWeek, Afterdawn), it seems the krew at DV8 were well connected, and well organized.

An inside source accuses a user named ‘griffen’, as being an insider that turned snitch to save his ass.

Details are sketchy about the eBay angle, but it sounds very plausible that someone pulled a brain fart, did something stupid, and in order to save his ass, he rolled on his buddies.

There are many theories, and the opinions I present are purely conjecture. However, no scenario can possibly support the theory of infiltration by the IFPI and BPI special ‘investigators liaisoning with the London police having any influence over the current events.

The current computer literacy capabilities of the RIAA/MPAA are grossly inefficient, and incredibly ignorant. Their current business model validates this fact. To leap the impossible and even entertain the idea that the media cartels could fathom an internet ’sting’ operation, much less implement one, is absolutely lunacy.

The technical level of the typical file sharing administration would befuddle experienced IT professionals and usually have measures in place to deter ‘investigations’ by Keystone Cops and their CD sniffing dogs.

It seems another experienced release group RAGEMP3 was caught up in the fallout of events.

RAGEMP3 has been around for around 10 years, and was one of the premiere release groups. I say ‘was’ because it seems that the admins have decided to retire and their ’service’ will no longer be available.

After further research, it seems that both these groups were well respected in the file sharing community. They had a great distribution model the MAFIAA should consider some day.

With respect to the dudes and dudettes in these groups, I apologize for my initial article that was based on insufficient research.

Shouts out to the file sharing community, and for groups like DV8 and RAGEMP3 which remember, its about the music and the artists, after all…

“Griffen” was the nick of an undercover FBI agent who ran topsite servers which resulted in the biggest-ever scene bust in 2005, also known as Operation Site Down.

Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it. I figured ‘griffen’ would make a return some day. Off to vape and l33ch.
