John Perry Barlow? No Way! says RIAA

p2pnet news view RIAA | P2P:- RIAA lawyers have become seriously discombobulated in the Big Music vs a Boston Student case.

One of the people Harvard professor Charles Nesson and his a team of law students want to call as an expert witness in defence of their client, Joel Tenenbaum, is  John Perry Barlow.

But, No Way! says Eve Burton, the Holmes Owen & Bird lawyer listed as supervising attorney for the Recording Industry Association of America a year ago.

Is she still in that position?

Whether she is not she, in a court document posted by Recording Industry vs The People, Tim Reynolds and Laurie Rust are demanding an expedited ruling claiming, “Defendant failed to supplement Mr. Barlow`s report on or before June 22, 2009, as required by the Court`s June 16, 2009 Order”

Barlow is one of the people who founded the Electronic Frontier Foundation.

Will they raise the same objections to other people the Harvard team is calling as trial witnesses?

In addition to Barlow, they include »»»

Professor Wendy Seltzer

Professor John Palfrey

Professor Johan Pouwelse

Professor Lawrence Lessig

Professor Terry Fisher

Professor Jonathan Zittrain

Andrew Grant (former antipiracy specialist at Macrovision)

Burton, Reynolds and Rust are the same lawyers who tried, and failed, to dismiss UMG Recordings v Lindor.

Recording Industry vs The People`s Ray Beckerman defended Marie Lindor, a home health aide accused of being an illegal online distributor of copyrighted music files, but who didn’t know computer from a Boeing 747.

we cant possibly have defendant bring to light the atrocities extorted from plantiff’s artists for all to see and hear. this would violate our ability to rape future artists and their families from their rightful earnings!
