Mum used school computer to help daughter

p2pnet news view | Crime:- Caroline Maria McNeal, a mother who was also a high-school secretary, used the school’s computer system to bump up her daughter’s class standing.

But she ended up facing criminal charges, says the Associated Press.

The woman was accused of using the passwords of three co-workers without their knowledge, “to tamper with dozens of grades and test scores between May 2006 and July 2007 at Huntingdon Area High School in central Pennsylvania,” the story has the state attorney general’s office saying.

“McNeal, 39, is alleged to have improved her daughter Brittany’s grades and reduced those of two classmates to enhance Brittany’s standing in the 2008 graduating class,” says AP, adding:

“In all, McNeal is accused of altering nearly 200 scores and grades covering four school years. The situation came to light in October 2007, when an employee of the high school guidance office discovered conflicting SAT scores for Brittany. Scores provided directly by the College Board showed a cumulative score of 1370, while an unknown source had previously entered 1730, according to court papers.”

Remember the Touro College grade scam?

Teachers, students and administrators at Touro College in New York penetrated the private college’s computer system so they could issue fake degrees for money, say reports.

Included with the phony documents were degrees given were those for doctors’ assistants.

Since January, at least 50 people had paid for, “better or deleted grades and for bachelor’s and master’s degrees, District Attorney Robert Morgenthau said,” says Times Wire Services.
