The Pirate Bay to users: ‘We still need you!’

p2pnet news view Freedom | P2P:- The Pirate Bay spokesman Peter Sunde has a message for the thousands of members who feel betrayed by the group.

Yesterday, “The Pirate Bay gang have either totally ratted out all the people who for years have been supporting them, or in a canny business move, they’ve moved from text to video,” said p2pnet, going on, “TPB has been bought by a gaming company which promises to, “eliminate today’s … pirates‘.

“So can Hollywood breathe a sigh of relief? Meet vBay (as it’ll inevitably be tagged) aka the Video Bay.”

Now, says TPB spokesman Sunde to disenchanted TPB followers, “We still need you, even if you abandon the site.”

The group signed up with Global Gaming Factory for a cool 60 million kroner (about $C9,025,310). “Global Gaming, which says it has the largest network of online cafés and gaming centers anywhere, is also buying a file sharing technology company called Peerialism,” said p2pnet.

Today,”We are going to build a user deletion interface later today,” Sunde blogs, continuing »»»

Many people have asked about having their account removed and we will not force anyone to stay on of course.

However, we also want to point out that we have no logs of anything, no personal data will be transferred in the eventual sale (since no personal data is kept). So no need to be worried for safety. We always care for that.

It also feels a bit sad to see the comments on the previous blog entry. We understand that you’re upset. But we have reasons to do this that we cannot ignore. We need to keep the site going and this is the only working alternative. We cannot finance the growth of the site anymore and we cannot back down. The only way is up and this is the only route to that place.

The support we had, is support we still need. We’ve been fighting for years for you; and yes; you have supported us in that endevour. We still need you, even if you abandon the site. The important thing is that you keep sharing and keep on saving the internets.

“We will try to do that, but right now, we need and deserve a break,” he says, adding:

“Some things needs to be reborn and rebooted. Let’s make this into something good!”

you still sell outs, no matter how you put it. From what I have been reading, the community has the right to be outraged after supporting you, bandwidth, time and energy. Thanks for the ride. There are other sites out there.

Transferring my time and energy to them, will be the next phase. You showed us what was possible. Thanks for that. However, yeah I don’t blame you for taking the money, but remember guys, you cannot have it both ways. YOu cannot spot out this ideology then completely do something the opposite. I thought you were bigger than that. You are nothing more than typical human beings, nothing more, and nothing less. However, you are pulling what we like to call here in the states, a typical Republican…. hypocrisy and bullshit are all name of the game.

Stay tuned? Or not?

Tried to do a search on TPB today? Overloaded. Then hundreds of ‘click ok to leave, click cancel to stay’ windows open. Then you either shut your browser down in time or it crashes.

Yarrrrrr, the crew be scuttlin her! She’s going down in flames. The officers have lost control. Brings a tear to my eye-patchless eye.

Will the sale even go through? Not likely. Is this a pump and dump scam for the stock of the purchasing company?

Was it all orchestrated by The Man from behind the scenes? Did the site owners just get punk’d by The Man himself??

  2. NO1UNO Says:

Yep, they need us, to make it worth it to the game company to buy it!!
If the users go, then TPB aint worth buying!!
So FO TPB, you chose your own death (i guess thats somethin) go ahead and
sink, I’m already tired of the stink you’ve caused!

    byo & stw

  3. Reader's Write Says:

Sunde keeps talking like this is nothing more than the Pirate Bay changing hands. According to him, the torrents and tracker will still be there, just run by other companies making them harder to take down. However, I can’t see any real company actually running a web site that specializes in the trading of copyrighted material.

  4. Reader's Write Says:

It’s amazing that TPB, when on trial, had nothing but the support and backing of the community, who called the trial a farce and argued in favor of TPB almost unconditionally.

Now they sell the company, one move which, given their history honestly doesn’t seem like it will ruin everything, and everybody abandons ship — just like that. I, for one, am going to see this through until either the ultimate flaming death of TPB (which will be a sad day), or proof that Sunde really knew what he was doing.

It’s a gaming company. If it turns out that they’re industry sellouts, then it’s too bad. But since when does the RIAA do microcrap’s buy-and-kill tactics? They’ve always sold or forced their targets out of business. This doesn’t look like the RIAA’s handiwork. Especially considering their “success” with the trial they already put the TPB through.

    Just my $0.02 :)

  5. Leave TPB Says:

I do not care anymore what you guys think. Anybody who care a bit about uploaders who bring the most valuable content on Thepiratebay (pirates) must delete their account or upload only shit (virus, fake, porn). To the others, keep dreaming !

  6. Bob Says:

We here in the states aren’t usually so narrowly stupid as to call anything “a typical Republican.” The only folks who do that are “typical Democrats.” See? Everybody can play this game, and it’s still stupid.

As for TPB – we’ll see what happens, but who knows at this point.
